Hello Yarden,
From a quick internet search, "Colibri" seems to be the Spanish (and also the French) name of the Hummingbird, and it is found exclusively in the American continent. One of its subtypes, the Bee Hummingbird from Cuba, is the smallest bird on earth, so tiny that it is often confused with big moths. A nice picture: http://www.orchidlady.com/personal/bee.html But the real surprise is that there is yet another species of birds called "Honeyeaters", or "Honeysuckers" http://www.bartleby.com/65/ho/honeyeat.html that live in NZ and Australia. They are not especially small, and one of its sub-species was awarded the honor to be the official symbol of the state of Victoria in Australia, whose regional capital is Melbourne. This latest piece of info comes from http://www.vic.gov.au/stategov/honey.html |
