Thank you.
1. I have yet to decide. My tendency is to say "Yes, as soon as I am settled in a new country", but I'm not sure about it just yet. I feel that I might be able to use it in the future for furthering the pursuit after the goals that I specified in the end of the article. This act will have a mere symbolic significance in the present, and a possible negative influence in the future - so I'm still considering it. 2. Certainly. I'm sure I will return to Israel in order to visit my loved ones, and for closing up some of the open ends that I left during my quick departure. I will return to live Israel in Israel if either I will undergo a fundamental conscientious and moral metamorphosis, which will change my entire perspective on life, or if the situation in Israel will be changed in such a way that I will feel that I can return to it, and can contribute more from the inside. The second part also has to do with a question that Gilad Barzilai asked me - Why now? It is a hard question to answer, since the process is internal and very difficult to quantify. I have long told myself that if some catastrophic event will take place, such as mass deportation of Palestinian-Israelis or extreme forms of prosecution against journalists and dissenters, I will immediately leave. This kind of event have yet to take place, and I believe it never will. In my opinion, The Israeli democracy will not collapse in a big bang, it will crumble and erode away, but the result will be the same. But it is also possible that the radical forces that are now gathering power and gaining momentum in the public will lead the government and the military to such frightening scenarios, including the use of nuclear weapons. As for me, in the last couple of weeks and months I felt an ever-growing feeling of disgust and helplessness in front of the current events, and decided that immigration is the best countermeasure. I am still battling within me if I made the right choice, and if my actions truly do help - not just me, but others suffering from this bloody chain of events as well. |
