Dear Ms Welch
Thank you for your e mail. As you are aware, we removed the three specific goods - to which you alluded in your e mail - from sale last week in order to give ourselves prudent opportunity to review the situation. Having done so, we have decided (as have Selfridges) to re-instate the products. However, at each of the locations where the products are sold, there is information explaining the exact region in which the items were produced, e.g. "Beigal and Beigal Crackers - This product originates from the Barkan Industrial Zone, West Bank". By giving our customers this extra information we are allowing them to make a more considered purchase based on their own beliefs and philosophy and conversely allowing those who do not wish to purchase the products the opportunity to decline to do so. You will appreciate that Harrods has long occupied a position at the forefront of British retailing with hundreds of thousands of loyal customers from many nations with a multiplicity of different beliefs and political or social viewpoints. This position has arisen as the result of over 150 years of offering our customers the merchandise they want from an enormous variety of sources. The Food Halls form the heart of the business and are widely regarded as having one of the finest selections of luxury items available anywhere in the world. Here, as is the case elsewhere in the store, we allow our customers to make whatever purchases they wish on the basis that it is up to the individual to make their own decisions. I trust this clarifies our position on this matter. With kind regards. Yours sincerely Laurence Williams Manager Management Services -----Original Message----- From: foxglove@barak-online.net [mailto:foxglove@barak-online.net] |
