The key point is the words "somewhat similar". "like" and "you know" show up often in the teenager's language and in the language of low SES groups. You will not find them as often as the Israeli "Ah" in the language of educated adults. And you will rarely find any "you know" or "like" in the language of a TV reporter. Now, go and calculate the frequency of Ah's you hear on Israeli channnels and compare it to the frequency of "you know" and "like"" that you hear on American channels. And by the way, the Hebrew equivalent of "like" is not Ah: it is כזה כאילו....
