A break wall has been built over the main gate to Technion city. The wall is sprayed with grafittis and maintained by a bunch of angry students relating to the union (ASAT) headquarters. Traffic jams are caused by the selection at the gate - professors are not allowed in, public transportation unloads its passengers outside.
This outragously infantile behaviour has already got its spot on the news, thanks to an angry aeronautics professor who has manually breached the wall with his body earlier.
Needless to say this unjustified provocation serves but a minor interest of Asat's chairman, Ofer Orenstein, eager as always to mount the barricades and wage war upon whoever piss him off. All the students ask for is that the lecturers strike won't harm the students. Preventing the professors from entering the campus and maintain their research sounds like an old wish of mr. Orenstein, but it surely ain't necessairy to have the students requestes heard. I personally see it as plain vandalism, not to say mockery. Someone in Asat's headquarters ought to drink a mug of cold water and call this humiliating protest (?) off.

Why are student strikes in general something childish and foolish? There's no other way of getting what you deserve in this country, after all.

I do agree that ASAT's actions are silly, in the sense that burning cars and blocking roads are counter-productive.

But they do have a point - why should the students suffer whenever the Treasury doesn't live up to its wage promises to senior lecturers? Why don't the lecturers cease their government-funded research in protest, instead of hurting our scholarly ends?
