Referring to your last paragraph, I see your conclusions from the current situation the complete opposite of what I would think is obvious. Why are reservists being called to arms so often, and why so many of them? Because they are needed. Because the enlisted men are deteriorating in performance, due to overwork. Now, not only will you nullify this addition to the military work force, but you would weaken the enlisted body of the military as well?

I see current events as completely justifying our current state of affairs. A small, smart military may be good when you have millions of people, or when your environment is relaxed, but do you honestly think that this paradigm fits the Middle East?
