Sharon doesn't really have any other option. Not if he ever intends to win the elections. He has to stay at the centre‏¹, or otherwise the labour would push him so far right that most people would prefer to vote for the moderately hawkish Fuad over his (Labour instead of Likud). The way I see it, Sharon is better off alienating the right than the left and centre.
