There was never a better example than this morning, when it led the Radio 4 7am news with the statement that there had been “another gloomy development” for the British forces, a development which a few minutes later it described as “the worst possible news” — ie, that two British soldiers were missing in Iraq. It was not untypical of the Corporation’s reporting of the war so far.

Whatever attitude one takes towards the fighting, no journalist of any competence could describe those missing soldiers as “the worst possible news” except for the families concerned. We fear that what we are seeing and hearing from the BBC is the worst possible (subsidised) reporting.

THE BBC was last night sensationally condemned for “one-sided” war coverage — by its own front line defence correspondent.
